The crash took place in western New Haven County around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4 in Beacon Falls in the northbound lanes of Route 8.
According To Connecticut State Police, a Honda Civic, with two adults and two children, and a Ford F-600 with one adult were traveling in the left lane of two on Route 8 when the Ford ran into the back of the Civic.
Following impact, both vehicles came to an uncontrolled stop between the left shoulder and left lane against a concrete barrier, state police said.
The driver of the Civic sustained suspected serious injuries and was transported to St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury.
The driver of the Ford sustained suspected minor injuries and was also transported to St. Mary's Hospital, police said.
The front-seat passenger of the Civic also sustained serious injuries and was transported to Waterbury Hospital.
Two passengers in the Civic, Bridgeport children Riquelme Alves Brito, age 3, and Laura Alves Brito, age 6, were pronounced dead at Waterbury Hospital.
